Area Airports
There are three airports nearby with
varying degrees of easy access to Washington, DC.
Ronald Reagan National
Airport - this airport is the closest, located in Arlington, VA
(sometimes called the Crystal City area). This airport was just
renovated and if you end up getting to the airport and your flight was
delayed, you'll have plenty to do. You can shop, eat, drink, look
at art or people watch. Because it is so close to DC, there are
very serious restrictions on how late you can fly into this airport in
a commercial plane (no later than 10pm). To get to DC from this
airport, you can take a taxi or take the Metro -
there is a metro stop at the airport. You can also take the Super
Shuttle from 5:30am until 12:30am. Their phone number is 1-800-BLUEVAN. You
can purchase tickets for the shuttle at the airport. Dulles
International - this airport is located about 40 miles
outside of DC. Allow extra time when departing
DC from this airport because most of the terminals are not
in the main area. You will need to take those people
movers which can add 10-15 minutes to your enroute time. To
get back and forth from DC, you have a few options. Currently,
metro does not run to Dulles, but you can take the Washington
Flyer Express Bus for $8 to the Falls Church Metro stop. Or
you can take the Washington Flyer Express bus to the Greyhound
station in downtown DC for $16 one way, $26 roundtrip. Their
phone number is 1-888-WASHFLY. There is also a Greyhound
Airport bus - you can call them at 222-BUS-N-FLY. Of
course taxi's are also available. Washington Flyer has a taxi
service available for about $35-$47, depending on your destination
in DC.
BWI or Baltimore International
Airport - This airport is located about 40-45 miles outside of Washington.
To get back and forth you can take a Super Shuttle for about $30 (1-800-BLUEVAN)
or you can take an airport shuttle to the MARC train station. From there
you take a train to the DC Metro system. A taxi ride will cost about
$45, again depending on your destination in DC.
